Are you serious about getting brand ambassador jobs? Do you want to be able to pick and choose the best jobs and have gigs rolling in on the regular? Then listen up! We’re going to give you an inside look at what your brand ambassador resume tells potential employers about you and how to make sure your resume stands out!
Event staffing agencies receive hundreds of applications per day, as you can imagine, it’s no easy task sorting through these to identify the best applicants. So how can you stand out in a sea of competition? By having a well-designed and well-thought-out brand ambassador resume of course!
You only get one chance to make a first impression. Like most clichés, this exists for a reason, because it’s the truth. Believe it not, your experience is the second thing people will notice.
The first thing that happens when somebody reviews your brand ambassador resume, whether they ever realize it or not, is that they pass judgment on your character based on the design and layout.
Think about it, when you stumble onto a new website, what do you do first?
You create an idea in your head if it’s good or bad based on how it looks, not on what it says.
Granted, there are many good websites that you’ll become a fan of because the content is that good. However, many people will click away from poorly organized websites before they read anything. If it looks terrible, then most will assume that the content is terrible.
Lucky for you, you can get help with resume designs pretty easily. Lacking in design skills? Don’t try to reinvent the wheel, simply use an existing template. Of course, Microsoft Word has plenty of professional templates to choose from, but if you’re looking for a little more flair, check out Canva.
Your contact information should include your legal name – if you have a stage name, you include that, too, but specify it below your legal name. You’ll also need to include your phone number, email address, and markets that you’re available for. For your safety, NEVER include your full address in your resume.
It’s great to put a face with a name! Include a close-up headshot of yourself near your name and contact info. If you don’t have a professional headshot, that’s OK, just make sure the lighting is right and it’s a quality shot!
For those of you that don’t have any experience in the experiential marketing industry, it’s completely okay! We understand that some people are new to the industry and that should never deter you!
The entire goal of an experiential marketing campaign is to connect with consumers on a personal level to form deep-rooted relationships. And guess who is responsible for those connections? Brand ambassadors of course! Individuals who are endlessly energetic, do their jobs with passion and love interacting with people are the ones that make the very best brand ambassadors!
So for those of you that are lacking in event-specific related experience, be sure to emphasize your customer service skills in another industry.
For example, if you worked in a restaurant and were on the front lines, engaging with customers and representing the restaurant in a customer service driven role then you should highlight on your brand ambassador resume.
Focus on your customer-facing experience, and you’ll be landing gigs in no time.
Your resume should be no longer than two pages. Face it, people are busy. Keep the information you include short and easy to digest. At first glance, the reader should be able to get a pretty good idea of who you are and if you are a good fit. Chances are, the reader will never make it to the end of your resume, so highlight your best points first.
Here are a couple of ideas on what types of links to include:
LinkedIn is the go-to social media site for networking professionals. If you are active on the site (which you should be), include your LinkedIn profile on your resume so the agency rep can connect with you.
Create a brief, 15-30-second video introducing yourself and showcase your high-energy, outgoing personality. Just remember to keep it short! A quick introduction, a little bit about your event (or relevant) experience, and why you want to work for the agency is exactly what the viewer will want to see. Upload your video on Vimeo or Vine and include the link on your brand ambassador resume.
Just remember, as Ron Burgundy says, “stay classy.”
Take advantage of free website development sites like Wix. You can easily create your own personal website that features your past experience as a brand ambassador, event photos, hobbies, and interests. Having your very own website will make a lasting impression.
